• Welcome to Help Island Lanka Foundation

We at Help Island Lanka Foundation are driven by our faith on the lord the Jesus Christ. We solemnly believe that every human being despite their religious, ethnic, caste, class or geographic marginalization, are all children of the GOD. We feel that we are born with one purpose, to serve and ensure the fulfilment of the basic needs of the marginalized. We are bound by duty and motivation to carry forth HIS message both among HIS disciples and the others.

As true devotees we intend to spread the Gospel truth among those have not yet seen the light and break them away from forces of Evil.
  • What we do

As the first step we have chosen the Nuwara Eliya and Badulla Districts of Sri Lanka to work with those who are suffering from abject poverty and to assist them in safeguarding their food, health, livelihood and education interests.

We will first strive to create a situation where all families in the estate sector of Nuwara Eliya District to enjoy three healthy meals per day leading to a significant reduction in child and female malnutrition in the region.

We will enhance the quality of life of those who are living in the estate sector of Nuwara Eliya by provisioning adequate health care facilities through a series of medical camps catering to the everyday health care requirements of both abled and the disabled.

About Tea Estates in Sri Lanka

Tea is the single most important primary commodity export that successive governments had enormously relied on to contribute to the growth of the Sri Lankan economy since independence (Kelegama, 2006). Throughout the years though faced with many challenges, it has been able to live up to these expectations. In 2010 Sri Lanka earned a staggering 1.37 billion USD from the industry. Though Kenya surpassed Sri Lanka in production, Sri Lankan Tea has been able to secure higher earnings due to its quality and high standards maintained in production. As a labour intensive industry, the sector comprises of approximately 250,000 plantation workers. Everyday these workers contribute their labour to the development of the sector in harsh geographical and weather conditions that are neither healthy nor safe. However though they are an important asset to the Sri Lankan economy similar to the migrant workers, the welfare of the estate workers has been sometimes partially or completely neglected by the state as well as by the management of the sector. In the meantime these workers have been subjected to continuous exploitation by politically motivated trade unions who have constricted space for what is left of their resilience and independence as citizens of this island nation.
